Collection: Vesna (Vesnin Vez)

Serbia - Belgrade, at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers (Central Serbia)

Vesna is an architect by training, but she chose to become self-employed to dedicate herself to embroidery and create her own jewelry line. She recently confided in me that this activity deeply fulfills her and simply makes her happy.

The beginnings: traditional embroidery and zlatovez

Vesna first took courses in traditional embroidery, then more specialized training in zlatovez.
Zlatovez is a Serbian embroidery made with gold or silver thread; it is one of the oldest and most prestigious textile techniques in the Balkans. Today, gold or imitation gold thread is generally used, as well as silver or sometimes copper thread.

A demanding technique

This embroidery requires a high level of skill in needlework. The metallic thread, laid on the fabric surface, must be shaped, unlike cotton thread which bends easily. It is held in place by a fixing thread, which demands precision and patience.
Once very widespread, zlatovez is an integral part of the rural and religious textile heritage.

The birth of his brand: Vesnin vez

Like many artisans who are reviving ancient techniques and traditional motifs, Vesna wants to reach younger generations.
His ambition: that they take up the torch and in turn perpetuate these unique textile traditions.
