A continuous learning process of weaving

Sonja learned weaving through training courses and workshops, and she continues to refine her techniques.
On her loom, she now produces a variety of items: woven cushion covers, krpare (woven rugs), bags, as well as elements of traditional costume.
She primarily favors natural materials, paying particular attention to the quality, durability, and authenticity of each creation.

Ruma, a source of inspiration

Sonja lives and creates today in Ruma, in the heart of Srem (one of the six regions of Vojvodina in northern Serbia)
It is a place where you can still feel the connection between people, work and tradition, but also the tranquility inherent to the plain.
It is precisely this tranquility that profoundly influences her work, she tells me, from the choice of colours to the patterns she weaves.

Personal note

It must be that this tranquility is an inexhaustible source of inspiration because what Sonja creates is quite impressively diverse.
I had the opportunity to meet her in July 2025 on the road between Belgrade and Novi Sad.
Fruit juices, coffee and štrudle sa makom (poppy seed rolls) were waiting for me before she gave me a tour of her lair.
Imagine my surprise when I entered his workshop! A veritable Aladdin's cave where a loom reigns majestically.
On the shelves, shawls, bedside rugs, and cushion or chair covers. Ponchos and bags hang on the hangers. And so many colors and styles: traditional, classic, a little of both...
I had no choice but to leave with a few items in anticipation of my Christmas gifts.
Sonja is an energetic woman whose work ethic impressed me, as did her kindness and her simple and warm welcome.
